What Really Happened?

In Left Behind: The Kids we hear about the Anti-Christ, Nicolae Carpathia. Some of the Young Tribulation Force members even got to see him, face-to-face. Buck Williams visited New Hope Village Church after Carpathia came into power, and told Judd, Vicki, Lionel, Ryan, and Bruce Barnes about his experience with Carpathia.

In "Left Behind: The Movie" we got to see what really happened in the room when Buck realized Nicolae would be the Anti-Christ.

No One Knows

Matthew 24:36, "But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father."

I love this verse because it is telling us that only God knows when Jesus is coming, so do not be deceived. Matthew 24 is a great chapter. It discusses prophecy and the rapture. In past posts I have shown you prophecy in Matthew 24. Here are the links: Prophecy 1 and Prophecy 2.

Darrion Stahley

First Appearance: The Search (9th book)

Darrion Stahley was fourteen years old when the rapture occurred. She, along with her mom and dad were left behind because they didn’t believe in Jesus, the true Messiah. They believed that they got to heaven through good works. They wouldn’t eat meat because they believed humans and animals were equal. Her father, Maxwell Stahley, was very rich. After the disappearances he began working for the Global Community. His job was high profile, so he lived out in the middle of nowhere. Darrion’s favorite hobby was riding her horses and motorcycle.

Original Young Trib Force Members

Judd, Vicki, Lionel, and Ryan began it all! Let's look at a little information on each of them.

Judd Thompson

Before the disappearances Judd stole his dad’s credit card and ran away to England. Well, at least he tried. That’s when Jesus came back, and half the people on the plane disappeared. Judd met the original members of the Young Trib Force at New Hope Village Church the day of the rapture. He is a leader. He’s the oldest original member of the group. His best friend goes between Vicki and Lionel, depending on where he is in the books. For more information follow this link to find out more about him.

Vicki Byrne

Vicki’s family lived in a trailer park. Vicki always thought since she lived there, other people didn’t think she was good enough. She was rebellious. She would sneak out and go drinking and smoking with friends, then sneak back home while everyone was sleeping. She was out with her friend when the disappearances occurred. She came home to only the clothes of her family. Vicki’s best friend was Shelly Brown for most of the series. To find out more on Vicki follow this link to an old post from the blog.

Lionel Washington

Lionel had two sisters and a brother. His parents raised their kids to love Jesus and have a relationship with Him. Lionel had other ideas. He preferred spending time with his Uncle, Andre, who was really “cool.” Andre spent his time partying, drinking, and taking drugs. Lionel didn’t want to become addicted to drugs or anything, but he wanted to have the freedom Andre had. At home though, he would act like a “good” boy. He pretended to love God. When everyone in church service stood up to sing, he would join. He had everyone fooled…until they were raptured, and he wasn’t. At the beginning of the series his best friend is Ryan. For more of Lionel follow this link to read more about him from an older post on this blog.

Ryan Daley

Unlike the other kids, Ryan didn’t grow up in a Christian home. His parents didn’t like it when Ryan had questions about God, and they never taught him anything. His best friend Raymie Steele however, tried to teach him about Jesus. Ryan wasn’t very interested. He live a pretty ‘normal’ life for the most part. That is, until millions of people worldwide disappeared in thin air, leaving nothing but their clothes behind. Ryan was scared and went to find Raymie, who had also disappeared. “Is this what Raymie was saying all along,” he thought. “Did Jesus come back?” To learn more about Ryan follow this link to an old blog post.

Taylor Graham

First Appearance: On the Run (10th book)

Taylor Graham was the pilot for the Stahley family. The Young Trib Force met him through Darrion Stahley. Maxwell Stahley, his boss, had Taylor fly him around when he had to go to meetings or business trips for his job. The Stahley’s thought of Taylor as part of the family. Taylor said that he wasn’t very ‘religious’ and he did not know why everyone disappeared. The kids try to tell him it was the rapture and the truth about God, but will he listen?

Shelly Brown

First Appearance: The Vanishings (1st Book)

Shelly Brown was a good friend of Vicki before the rapture. She and Vicki lived in the same trailor park and went to the same school, so they hung out. Shelly’s mom was addicted to drugs and never took good care of Shelly. She was often on her own. She got caught up in the wrong crowd and would drink alcohol and smoke late at night. When Vicki found her after the disappearances, Shelly was in shock. She wouldn’t tell Vicki what happened to her. Shelly begins to get a bigger role later on in book five or six, (I don’t want to spoil anything). Vicki is her best friend throughout the book.

Charlie Atkins

First Appearance: The Showdown (13th book)

Charlie Atkins was a teenage boy who had trouble understanding the world. He was a slow learner, and needed assistance doing most activities. When the rapture happened, he had no idea why so many people disappeared. He met Vicki while helping her. When Vicki tried to explain to him why he was left behind and what it meant to have a relationship with God, he was more concerned about the mark of the believer on Christian’s foreheads. He stays with the Young Tribulation Force for awhile, but Judd wants him to leave because he isn’t saved, and is worry Charlie might turn the kids in to the Global Community. Can the kids convince Charlie of the truth? Or will he give the Young Trib Force up to the GC?

John Preston

First Appearance: Nicolae High (5th book)

John is the cousin of Mark Eisman. They were buddies since they were babies. They both grew up in Christian homes, but didn’t believe in God. John was close with his aunts, uncles, and cousins. He would pretend he believed in Jesus, but it was a lie. He never believed. Not until his whole family disappeared. All that was left was their clothes. Mark had been left behind too. John knew right away what had happened. He got saved right after the rapture. He met Judd and Vicki on their first day of school after the rapture.

Melinda Bentley

First Appearance: The Showdown (13th book)

Melinda Bentley was one of Conrad’s Morale Monitor partners. She ends up in Chicago for a mission to catch looters in a mall after the Wrath of the Lamb earthquake. She and Felicia are avid Carpathia followers. Melinda and Felicia were best friends before the rapture. After an incident with one of Felicia’s family members, they decided their best option was to go to boot camp and become Morale Monitors. Vicki tells them about the word of God, and they try to turn her in. Will it work? Or will the Young Tribulation Force stop them?

Chaya Stein

First Appearance: Busted! (7th book)

Chaya Stein was the daughter of Mitchell and Judith Stein. She was seventeen years old at the rapture. Before the disappearances, Chaya’s family believed in the Judaism. Chaya met a young man who was Christian. He explained her faith to her, but she was still unsure about leaving behind her Jewish faith. She met with him one night, for a meeting. As he was getting on the subway, while explaining to her, once again, the story of Jesus, he disappeared right out of his clothes! She panicked and got help. Then she realized dozens of other people in her location disappeared. She got home later that night, to find on the news that millions of people, worldwide had disappeared. After that she believed, and her parents disowned her for leaving behind her original faith.
